Jim Lai

Mr. Lai has been serving as a board member in Wolley Inc. since 2016. He also serves as board members in a few semiconductor companies including Megachips Corp (Tokyo Exchange 6875), Silicon Optronics, Inc. (Taiwan Exchange 3530), Truelight Corp. (Taiwan Exchange 3234), and Giga Solution, currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Ardentec (Taiwan Exchange 3264). From 2003 to 2016, Mr. Lai served as President of GUC (Taiwan Exchange 3443), a TSMC’s subsidiary and its ASIC service arm. He currently is an Advisor in GUC after retiring from Presidency position. From 1992 to 2003, Mr. Lai was in charge of various groups in TSMC North America including emerging accounts, design services, and ASIC BU. Prior to joining TSMC, Mr. Lai co-founded ASICtronics in 1990, as one of the earliest 3rd party design service companies in Silicon Valley. Mr. Lai’s earlier engineering experience was well trained in LSI Logic and Toshiba America from 1985 to 1990. Mr. Lai received his BSEE from National Taiwan University, and MSEE from University of California, Santa Barbara.

Mr. Lai had extensive experience supporting many startup companies in the world during his TSMC and GUC days. He also had a successful exit (M&A) in his own startup in 1990. He took GUC public in 2006 and transformed the company from a local Taiwan company to a global design service leader. Mr. Lai received 2009 National Outstanding Manager Award from then-President Ma of Taiwan, ROC.
